Joe Walker
Boda-Boda rider on a Ugandan road
Saturday, May 16, 2026  •  Kampala

The 2026
Joe Walker
Boda-Boda Walk.

49%

of all road deaths nationwide involve boda-bodas.

They are essential, affordable, and vital to our daily lives. Boda-bodas are at the heart of how we move, but this is a crisis we cannot solve alone.

The Mission

Flipping the Script on Road Safety.

For too long, boda-boda riders have been framed as the problem. On May 16, 2026, we are flipping the script. The Joe Walker Boda-Boda Walk is designed to engage directly with Uganda's most vulnerable road users.

We are walking with riders, to riders, and for riders — to empower them as the central agents of change in creating lasting road safety solutions.

What to Expect

A movement you can see and feel.

When we show up at a boda stage, we aren't there to lecture—we're there to listen, hand out safety gear, and walk shoulder-to-shoulder with the guys who ride these roads every single day.

Direct Dialogue

We will hold live conversations on the road and at designated stop points, opening a direct community dialogue on enforcement and behavioral change.

Safety Sensitization

We will join hands with others to provide safety workshops led by mechanics and stage leaders. They will provide practical guidance covering road rules, defensive driving, and passenger safety.

Reflector Jacket Distribution

We will be distributing certified safety gear (reflector jackets) to riders to ensure they are seen and safe on the road — day or night.
