February 26th to March 4th 2024

On February 26th, 2024, “Joe Walker and Friends” will be walking from Kampala to Fort Portal.  This marks the third annual walk for the team, following the Kampala to Bushenyi walk in 2022 and the Kampala to Mbale walk in 2023.

Road safety walks are done to reduce road traffic deaths by raising awareness, speaking to motorists and pedestrians along the way, painting zebra crossings, and much more.

You too can be a part of the walk to raise awareness and save a life.

Training Plan

Key to note

  • Cross-training involves:- jogging, aerobics, gym work, swimming
  •  800-meter repeats:- warm up with 2km walk, and walk 800 meters at your intended walk pace
(e.g. if you plan to walk at 9:30min/km then you do the split at 4:00min/km pace). Jog at
least 400-800 meters in between the repeats
  •  Hill repeats:- warm up with 2km walk, get a hill of about 400 meters with a gentle climb
sprint up the hill, and jog back to the bottom
  • Tempo walk: – start easy, then increase the pace, peak and then slow down.
  • Simulation walk: – This is the event day rehearsal, use the shoe kit that you will be using, and practice hydration points.
